F2F - Adding a new reservation - Identity Check

Here we will use our partner, Onfido to create an identity report for your buyer(s). Under the Proceeds of Crime Act 2002, conveyancers are under a legal obligation to take reasonable steps to ensure that their firms’ client accounts are not used by criminals for the purpose of laundering money earned through illegal activities. By using Onfido, we can check your buyer’s identity and confirm they do not appear on any global sanctions or watchlists.

You’ll receive the following details from the Onfidio report:

- ID verification
- Facial similarity report
- Politically Exposed Person check
- Sanctions check
- Adverse Media check

Should you wish to skip this step, simply click 'Skip for this reservation' in the top right, we will ask you to confirm you want to skip this step before we action this. If you do wish to continue, the buyer's names that you entered will already be listed and you'll just need to click 'Run check' against each buyer to start. A pop up will appear with 'Verify your identity' simply click this button to begin. If the verification fails, it may be due to buyer details being entered incorrectly, you can go back into the buyer details step to edit the following fields: gender, first name, last name and date of birth.

After clicking 'Verify your identity', You'll then need to select the type of document you wish to use, the photo requirements of each are listed, for example, you'll need to take a photo of the front and back of a driver's license if using this document.

You can either take the required photos using a camera and save them to your computer to upload, or yourself or the buyer can use a mobile phone to securely continue the verification. If using a mobile phone you can select 'Need to use your mobile to take photos?' and Onfido will ask for your mobile number to text a one time SMS secure link, as well as provide a weblink you can copy into a mobile browser. Onfido will then guide you how to submit the photos this way on the mobile device!

After the ID has been uploaded, Onfido will ask for a short video recording of the buyer carrying out two tasks. This can be done via a computer webcam or via a mobile phone camera. The buyer will be asked to repeat three numbers as well as look over their shoulder. If you are having trouble accessing the camera on an iPad, look at our FAQ on this here.

Once this has been completed, you'll need to return to the computer (if you used a mobile device) to continue and select 'submit verification'. Onfido will start the process of retrieving the identity check results. While most checks will return within 5 minutes, some may take up to 24 hours to return, and so we suggest selecting 'Save & next' on this step initially. You can always review the results by clicking into this section from your steps listing again at a later point.

The results of the report will either state 'clear' or 'consider', however a more granular report of the results can be downloaded as a PDF from the same page, which also provides you with sub-results. You can click 'View' on this page to see a breakdown of the checks that have been performed and whether they have passed or failed.  If you do have consider listed in the identity check results, then you will need to evaluate from the information provided if you wish to continue with the sale or not. The report and images from the ID screening (the video, a screenshot, and the ID upload) are all added to the document set for the buyer’s conveyancer to receive on instruction.
